Collaborators

Constanza López Baquero is a professor of Spanish at the University of North Florida. She obtained her Ph.D. in Latin American Literatures at The Graduate Center of the City University of New York. Her research interests include Latin American literatures of the 20th and 21st centuries, women writers, autobiography and testimonio, gender and violence, film and documentary, human rights and activism, migrations, and hip hop and youth cultures. She is the author of numerous publications, including Reterritorializing the Spaces of Violence in Colombia: Collective Efforts (Routledge, 2024) which received the Best Book Award from the Colombian Studies Association in 2025, and Trauma, memoria y cuerpo: el testimonio femenino en Colombia (AILCFH, 2012), which won the 2011 Victoria Urbano Prize for best critical monograph and the 2014 Monserrat Ordoñez Award. At UNF, she leads the digital oral history project “Voces y Caras: Hispanic Communities of North Florida,” “Embroidery for Peace and Memory,” a project focused on community art and activism with an accompanying digital archive, and “UNF Latinx,” a collection of cultural podcasts produced by students of Latinx heritage.

Sheila Goloborotko is a professor of Printmaking at the University of North Florida. She is also the founder and director of Goloborotko’s Studio since 1989, a center for production and diffusion of printmaking whose principal goal is to encourage the voice and vision of individual artists in a nurturing environment that supports the creation of works that push the boundaries of printmaking. She has collaborated with Voces y Caras since 2023 as a curator for the project's exhibits.

She is a multidisciplinary artist and master printmaker who has exhibited installations, works on paper, sculpture, videos, and interactive projects in more than 200 exhibitions in museums and galleries on four continents, and yet has remained firmly committed to the community. Her printshops in Jacksonville, Florida, and in rural Pennsylvania are sites of print and poetic activism, empowering first-time printmakers with hands-on workshops and developing the visions of mid-career artists with portfolio production and instruction. Goloborotko’s efforts serve as a bridge between individual mastery and community activism, exploring the shifting boundaries of the information age as it relates to multiples and Collective Consciousness.

Michael Boyles received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Florida State University and has accumulated more than 35 years of eclectic experiences. His design credentials span a multitude of disciplines that incorporate print, environmental design, signage, trade shows, product design, package design, illustration, photography, story telling, and web design. He is a founding member and past president of The American Institute of Graphic Arts/Jacksonville Chapter. He has taught graphic design and concept for more than 20 years at the college level, as well as advertising, illustration and color theory at Florida State University and Florida State College at Jacksonville.

Michael has been with UNF since 2004 and is currently the graphic designer for the Center for Instruction and Research Technology (CIRT). As a creative collaborator since the project’s inception in 2012, he has assisted with the design and execution of the Voces y caras website as well as the annual fall exhibition of the project held in the Thomas G. Carpenter Library. His ongoing support for this includes his presentation of Voces y caras with Dr. López at the inaugural UNF Digital Humanities Institute Showcase in November, 2016, and assisting with the 2018 conference presentation of the project in Mexico City.

Alma Cruz Morillo is an undergraduate student at the University of North Florida. She is working towards a dual-undergraduate degree in Spanish and Psychology. She is originally from the Dominican Republic and she is the president of "el club de español" at UNF. She is currently an intern with the project Voces y Caras: Latinx Communities of North Florida under the supervision of Dr. Constanza López Baquero. She manages the website, Instagram and Facebook accounts. She participated in the 2026 UNF Research Symposium where she obtained the Digital Humanities Institute Showcase Outstanding Presentation Award.

Korie “Gigi” Novaton is a senior at the University of North Florida studying Art History with a minor in Spanish. She is an Afro-Latina interested in empowering the African diaspora and the Latinx community through the arts and history. She seeks to become a professor of art history and make efforts to reconstruct art historical and museum spaces to reclaim and elevate the African diaspora and Latinx communities.

In the Spring of 2023, she participated in the Voces y Caras; Latinx Communities of North Florida initiative when she took Dr. López’s “Communication and Communities for Heritage Speakers” class. In the Fall of 2023, she participated in the exhibition for Voces y Caras in the UNF Gallery of Art as a student, whose interviews alongside her classmates were formally showcased, and as a creative with her works displayed in the exhibition. In the Fall of 2024, she collaborated and assisted with developing and curating the Voces y Caras exhibition in the UNF Gallery of Art in addition to constructing a mural series for the 2024 exhibition alongside peer and artist Mars Abinuman.

Brianna Armenta is a senior at the University of North Florida where she is studying both Spanish and French. She is of Mexican descent and is interested in the condition of women in Mexico and the crisis at the United States and Mexican border. She aspires to be a professor at the university level teaching Spanish and related topics.

In the Spring of 2022, she interned with the project Voces y Caras: Hispanic Communities of North Florida under the supervision of Dr. Constanza López Baquero. She focuses on transcribing interviews and publishing subtitles. This requires listening to each interview with the help of a transcribing program, correcting grammatical errors, dictating speech, and eliminating unnecessary filler words. She has participated in the 2022 conference of Florida Digital Humanities Consortium and the Student Symposium hosted by the UNF Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures.

Victoria Farfán Lasso is an International Relations student at the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogotá, Colombia. In her studies, she focuses on the political and social environment in the United States and Europe. She has huge interest in the extent of immigration around the world. Driven by her motivation on this topic, she started her dissertation project based on the immigration at the border of Colombia and Panama targeting the policies established between both countries in order to ensure safety and control during the immigration process.

Victoria started her internship assisting Dr. López in the project Voces y Caras: Hispanic Communities of North Florida in July of 2018. She has collaborated in creation of this website and has assisted with the exhibition of Voces y Caras in the Thomas G. Carpenter Library. She has also been involved with the diffusion of the first Hispanic Film Festival of Jacksonville.

Madison Winemiller is an undergraduate at the University of North Florida studying Mechanical Engineering. In Fall 2025, she worked with Dr. Clayton McCarl as an Honors Facilitator for the class Publishing Local Archives Online. Since Spring 2026, Madison has worked with UNF’s Digital Humanities Institute as a Tech Fellow - troubleshooting and helping others use the department’s digital media equipment. She assisted Voces y Caras as technical and event support under the direction of Dr. Constanza López Baquero.
